    Firebird is a nonprofit dedicated to aiding individuals affected by trauma, including youth violence survivors, former inmates, and underserved Chicago Public School students. They promote healing through accessible glassblowing and ceramics classes, fostering community and providing support services.

About the Candle Maker

Since moving to Chicago after college, Josie has fallen in love with the city. From teaching on the West Side to now working at a local nonprofit, she loves to consistently learn and invest in her community. Inspired by the healing power of candle making, she aims to capture the city's determination, vibrancy, and community spirit with every candle. She enjoys connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations like Firebird Community Arts, aiming to illuminate pathways for positive change for the people and the city that inspire her.

About the Glass Makers

We're thrilled to partner with FireBird Community Arts for our beautifully unique handblown glass vessels.

“The mission of Firebird Community Arts is to empower and connect people through the healing practice of glassblowing and ceramics.

We serve those who have been impacted by structural or individual trauma on the South and West sides. We help people heal primarily by teaching glassblowing and ceramics - media that are typically expensive and difficult to access, but by their very nature elicit healing and build community. We provide a safe space, linkages to relevant wrap-around services, and professional and educational pathways for under-represented communities in the arts.

Project FIRE, our signature program, is a glassblowing and trauma recovery program for youth injured by gun violence in Chicago. Firebrand is our production team that produces items for wholesale and custom orders. Your purchase of original glass art supports the continued healing, connection, and employment of a young artist at Firebird.”
